Comments

I did this trip in December and it was amazing, everything I had hoped for and more. Danillo is a one of a kind guide: friendly, fun, incredibly knowledgable, not just about about every section of the Sarapiqui and Pacuare rivers, but also about the abundant wildlife (flora and fauna) you will see along the way. . . not to mention his spirited command of Costa Rican history, politics, and the best places to eat and stay while you're off river. We had a blast. The Sarapiqui is a picture postcard beautiful river: clean, crystal clear, warm water, lots of different sorts of sections suitable for paddlers of all skill levels. . . a great place to work on your roll, or for more advanced paddlers, negotiate class III and higher drops. The scenery along the river is classic Costa Rica: I've never seen so many shades of green, or so many different species of birds, along a river. The Pacuare is an angrier river, churning brown when we ran it, more volume and more challenging technical sections than the Sarapiqui. . . but again, Danillo has an excellent instinct for what each paddler can handle and can always find a safe line (or recommend a portage) for individual paddlers. His judgement is impeccable, and he's just a lot of fun to hang out with, wet or dry. Take this trip!
